Meet The Team

Judith Tanner is the Professor of Adult Nursing in the School of Health Sciences, University of Nottingham. Her area of specialist expertise is surgical site infection (SSI). This includes effectiveness of interventions to prevent SSI, SSI surveillance, image-based surgical wound monitoring, SSI care bundles, patient experiences of SSI and implementation. Her work informs many national and professional SSI guidelines. Judith is the joint lead for the WISDOM project.

Melissa is the Trust Lead for SSI Surveillance, Research and Innovation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She is on a number of national and international committees for surgical wound healing, surgical site infection (SSI) prevention, and the use of digital wound images in wound care. Melissa has promoted the use of digital images in surgical wound care to improve information and outcomes for patients, and between care settings. Melissa is an (unpaid) clinical advisor for Isla.

Karen is a nurse by background and nurse specialist in surgical site infection prevention at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. As the WIDSOM project manager, she is bringing her experience of using Isla in the healthcare setting to support the work packages across the study.

Full time patient ambassador at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, from a non-medical /academic background. I have spent many years working with clinicians to promote research documentation which is clear and informative without the need for jargon or terminology beyond most individuals clear understanding. Another important part of my role is always to protect the interests of patients and possible participants in research, not by giving an individual view but engaging with many to obtain a broader opinion to benefit all.

Luxmi is a Nurse Consultant in Tissue Viability at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. She holds a BSc in Tissue Viability, an MSc in Advanced Practice, and is pursuing a PhD in Nursing studies at the University of Nottingham. Luxmi is a Professional Nurse Advocate, Queen’s Nurse, and visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. Her passion lies in wound care and she has led teams in various healthcare settings and continues to contribute to clinical research and publications, focusing on improving public health and addressing skin tone bias in wound care.

James brings experience from in-hospital operations whilst consulting in his early career as well as managing the development and launch of AI products in the identity space with his previous start up Onfido.

Lara leads the Product organisation at Isla, a health tech platform supporting clinical centres across the UK and internationally. Before joining Isla she worked in high energy physics, and has a background in medical imaging, computational physics and machine learning. Lara believes in the power of technology to transform models of healthcare delivery, and is strongly motivated by working closely with clinical partners to understand and support patient pathways.

Jacqueline is a Medical Statistician at Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit, where her job is to ensure the investigators get the information they need from clinical trial. Jacqueline advises the research team about trial design to ensure the optimal statistical analysis can be carried out once the data is collected. She must design the analysis before any data is collected and then conducts her analysis much later. She likes being the first person to find out if the trial has the results that the research team are hoping for.

Dr Roy Harris is a MedTech product development specialist with over 40 years' experience in innovative medical technology research and IP management and commercialisation. He has headed up research groups in the industry, set up his own MedTech company developing advanced wound dressings and spent eight years as Head of IP and Commercialisation for NUH NHS Trust in Nottingham. Before moving to current position as adviser for translational research, he spent three years as Research Business Manager for the research support team in the School of Medicine at University of Nottingham.

Jon has over thirty years’ experience in the private sector, working primarily in Sales, Marketing and Commercial roles. Jon has worked for leading IT companies, growing, developing, and mentoring multiple sales and marketing teams, and has been responsible for significant year on year growth of their sales and profit margins.

Kelly-Marie is an experienced Project and Change Manager working for the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network as a Senior Innovation Lead. She supports innovators with the planning, implementation, and delivery of key innovations into the NHS as part of IGNITE, the commercial arm of the EMAHSN. She focusses mainly on Funding Application Support, Stakeholder Engagement, Commercialisation and Adoption.

Sarah is an experienced research scientist and Business Manager at CHEATA, a part of NUH NHS Trust, which supports med-tech developers to gather evidence for NHS. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of CHEATA in addition to selected project delivery including value propositions, literature searches and clinical evaluation reports. Prior to CHEATA, Sarah was responsible for Healthcare and Medical Devices at Pera Technology. She has a PhD in Biochemistry and carried out post-doctoral research at Oxford and Leicester Universities before spending over 10 years at AstraZeneca as an Experimental Pathologist in the Respiratory and Inflammation Therapy area.

Dr. Janet Bouttell, a health economist and chartered accountant, transitioned to academia in 2015. She holds an MSc in Health Technology Assessment and a PhD in HTA from the University of Glasgow, followed by an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership postdoc in molecular diagnostic technologies. Her focus is on refining health technology assessment methods to support the development of cost-effective medical devices with significant clinical impact. Currently, she works at the Centre for Healthcare Equipment and Technology Adoption in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Janet excels in developing value propositions, business models, and health economic modelling.

Jack is a Junior Data Manager for Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit and is providing support with the data validation, monitoring and database build for WISDOM WP4. He has an educational background in Physics, a professional background in Computer Programming, and is passionate about using modern technical advancements to improve the viability, efficiency, and accuracy of clinical trials. His expertise is in database building, data cleaning and trial monitoring using Microsoft Power BI.

Olivia is the Trials Administrator at the Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit (DCTSU), where she works across a range of studies to facilitate communication between the researchers and the DCTSU. For WISDOM, she will assist with trial management for WP3 and WP4. Olivia recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences - where her interest in working in clinical trials began.

Data lead for WISDOM WP4, Victoria currently directs the day-to-day operations of the Data Management team on behalf of Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit. Biostatistician with 15 years' experience in pre-clinical to phase III global studies. Expertise in clinical database design, data validation, programming & research data system regulatory requirements. Victoria's special interest is in bridging the efficiency gap between academic and commercial trials through innovation and technology.

I bring 5 years trial management experience in delivering multi centre NIHR funded clinical trials to the Wisdom team. My clinical trials experience includes wound healing, Physiotherapy, Paediatrics and renal. I will provide specialised trial management and support to Work packages 3 and 4 of the Wisdom programme grant.
